Magical, Twist of Fate- Chapter One

Quick side note before you begin: This takes place a few days after Katara forgives Zuko. They are at Zuko's family home. I've kind of pretended that the episode where Jet is back for a little bit then dies never happened (So the last time the GAang saw him was in season 1) Go with me on this please 

    She continued to bend the water. She concentrated hard with sweat beading up at her brow.

    "Hey, Katara?" Zuko asked breaking her concentration and forcing her to drop the water.

    "What?!" She snapped. His face turned red and he looked down at his feet.

    "Sorry, I, uh, I didn't mean to interrupt you." He said softly. "But, uh, Sokka said that he needs to run into town to get food and he asked me to get the money from you." Katara sighed and walked over to her bag.

    "Sorry Zuko. I didn't mean to snap at you like that." She said as she dug through her bag. Zuko shrugged.

    "It's okay."

    "Are you going with him?"

    "Yes. Aang is coming as well."

    "Good." Katara handed him the coin purse. "And Zuko?" He looked up at her. "Please make sure Sokka doesn't blow the money on things we don't need." He nodded and walked away. Katara went back to bending. After Katara finished, she found Toph laying on her back with Momo in the courtyard.

    "Hey there Sweetness, what was it like?"

    "What was what like?" She asked lying down next to her.

    "Apologizing to Sparky for the first time?"

    "Toph."

    "Oh, come on! I know you have a thing for him!"

    "What? That's ridiculous! What makes you think that?"

    "The way your body goes haywire whenever he's around."

    "My body is just confused. It's not used to me forgiving him."

    "Right."

    "Please. Zuko? I'd much rather not."

    "Keep telling yourself that." They sat in silence for the rest of the time. After about an hour Toph sat up quickly.

    "Toph? What is it?" Katara asked sitting up.

    "They're back.. with some new guy and Sparky is in a worse mood than usual." They both stood up as Zuko stormed into the room with a sack slung over his shoulder and a bitter look upon his face.

    "Zuko? What's wrong?" Katara asked. Zuko looked up at Katara and his expression softened slightly. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted by Sokka's outburst into the room.

    "Katara! Toph! You'll never guess who we found!" Sokka said. He looked over his shoulder and a man came sauntering into the room. Katara's chest tightened and her jaw set. A smug smile trailed across the mans face as he looked at her.

    "Hey there Kat. Long time, no see."

    Jet was back.
